INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 6, 2013) -- Col. Edward DeLisso relinquished command of the 3rd Brigade (Ordnance), 94th Training Division (Force Sustainment) to Lt. Col. Edwin Lugo during a change of command ceremony at the Indiana War Memorial Museum.

During the ceremony, DeLisso referenced the importance of having the ceremony at the memorial which commemorates the valor and sacrifice of the land, sea and air forces of the United States and all who rendered faithful and loyal service at home and overseas in the World War.

"It's only fitting to have a ceremony here with a picture of General (John Joseph "Black Jack") Pershing over us," DeLisso said about the ceiling to floor picture of the leader who led the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I and a previous professor and assistant instructor.

"I couldn't help to think how important it is to leave an organization a little better than we find it, and I think I've done that," he added.

Brig. Gen. Don Cornett, Jr., commander, 94th Training Division (FS), hosted the change of command ceremony, a tradition designed to formally signify the end of DeLisso's command and the beginning of Lugo's.

"The Army asks lots from senior leaders and command sergeants major, and a change of command symbolizes a new command," Cornett said.

He continued to explain the significant role the command sergeant major plays not only during the ceremony, but acts as a representation of the unit during the ceremony.

"The colors passed from the command sergeant major to the outgoing commander and eventually from the ingoing back to the command sergeant major is heritage."

Cornett expressed the importance of the 94th's mission, and awarded DeLisso the Meritorious Service medal for his outstanding efforts while he commanded the unit.

"The 3rd Brigade is better thanks to his leadership. Many think they are the best, but you truly are the best," Cornett said. "His dedication, leadership will lead to great things in the future and he will be missed tremendously."

The Brigade is directly responsible for ensuring the Ordnance Total Army School System Battalions and RTS-Ms provide training, certified instructors and make point of instructions adjustments as the instructional material s are updated.

Cornett also gave accolades to Lugo for his previous military experience and said he looks forward to having Lugo take command of the 3rd Brigade.

"He is coming to us with great credentials," said Cornett about Lugo, who is promotable to the rank of colonel and is the previous commander of the 375th Combat Support Battalion, Mobile, Ala. "He is full of energy and will help us prepare for any contingency."
