MISSION
The AUB reviews changes and improvements to:
- The clothing bag items, i.e., Army Combat Uniform (ACU) items, Army Service Uniform (ASU) items, Physical Fitness Uniform items
- The mess uniform: Blue and White Mess Dress
- The dress uniform/the service uniform: ASU items with cummerbund and bow tie
- Optional purchase uniform items, i.e., Windbreaker, ASU commercial items
The AUB resolves issues, provides and obtains guidance, and makes recommendations to the Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA). The CSA approves the initiation of concept development and adoption of these items.
The Board consists of 17 members that meet twice annually.

AUB HISTORY
February 3, 1949 - the first Army Uniform Board was held.
128 AUBs were held through June 30, 1982, chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Personnel.
June 3, 1983 - the Board's name was changed to the Army Clothing and Equipment Board (ACEB).
Nineteen ACEBs were held through April 19, 1996. ACEB one through 10 were co-chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Personnel and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Logistics. Beginning with the 11th ACEB, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Logistics was the sole chair.
October 6, 1996 - the Board's name returned to the Army Uniform Board, chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Logistics.
A total of 159 uniform boards have been held (140 AUBs and 19 ACEBs).
140TH ARMY UNIFORM BOARD
June 17, 2010 marked the 140th Army Uniform Board. Members met in the Pentagon to discuss product updates, policy clarification, and recommendations for the Chief of Staff.
Discussions
The Board determined that the Army G-1 will clarify the regulation that allows the mixing of full and miniature badges worn on the mess and evening mess uniform.
They also determined that the reflectivity of the Improved Physical Fitness Uniform t-shirt, both long and short sleeve, is sufficient.

Studies and surveys
-- Results of the study on improved footwear to reduce lower leg injury will be presented at the next meeting.
-- Soldiers are being surveyed on their preference between the temperate weather combat boot and the hot weather combat boot. Results may determine if only one is provided in the clothing bag and the other is available as an organizational clothing and individual equipment item. Results will be presented at the next AUB.

PROCESS FOR OFFICIAL AUB REVIEW
While the AUB Chairman is interested in hearing your feedback and suggestions, the official process for initiating an AUB review is:
1. A Soldier provides a recommendation to his or her Sergeant Major
2. Through the Soldier's chain of command, the recommendation will go to Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), who establishes clothing requirements
3. TRADOC then gives the recommendation to Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier
4. PEO Soldier provides a solution for the Board to review
Ultimately, all clothing bag, mess, dress, service, and optional purchase uniform item changes must be approved by the CSA.
