On June 12th, ASA(ALT)'s Principal Military Deputy addressed the Defense Logistics Agency and Defense Threat Reduction Agency in a keynote address focused on the Army's 237th birthday.

He touched on what it means to serve and the strength and fortitude of America's best Army. Phillps replied, "The bedrock of our military is trust. Really, that's what we celebrate today: trust among Soldiers and service members, trust among family members, [and] trust with the American people. For 237 years, our Army has upheld that trust with the American people. That's a trust that we can never forsake," he said. "The strength of our Army is our Soldiers."

Chief of Staff, General Raymond Odierno's opening remarks began with "We have the best equipped, best trained, and best led Army in history because of the 1.1 million professional Soldiers who serve in the Active Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve, as well as the dedicated service of our Army Civilians. It is our Army's competence, adaptability, moral character, and resolute commitment that defines us as professionals and guarantees our long-standing sacred trust with the American people".
