FORT STEWART, Ga. - More than five hundred attendees flowed in and out of Fort Stewart's ballroom to glean information on coastal Georgia happenings and travel opportunities for Third Infantry Division Families, March 13. A similar information sharing event took place March 12 at the Hunter Club with more than 50 vendors in attendance. The bi-annual community and travel showcase provides Soldiers, Family Members, retirees and Civilians with information from local and regional vendors.

Participants had the opportunity to learn everything from health related information to popular vacation spots for the entire Family to enjoy.

The showcase began in 2007 designed to educate Soldiers, Family Members, retirees on recreational activities found both on and off the installation Patrick Young, community relations officer said.

"There was a high level of energy with this event," Young said. "The showcase demonstrated a great level of support for Soldiers, Family Members and retirees."

The showcase offered a variety of exciting opportunities for attendees new to the area or those who have been at Stewart-Hunter for several years.

"I came to check out everything, said Family Member Ashley Brown. "We have actually lived here for about five years and there is still new stuff here that I did not even know about. It's a great opportunity."

Brown like other attendees stopped by the "Splash in the Boro" exhibit and won free tickets to the water park located in nearby Statesboro.

"I come out yearly to get better ideas for the kids and for our Family. We are planning a trip to D.C. this year and an event like this will help," said Family Member, Catherine Hanner.

Hanner's friend, Family Member Brandy Turner added, "I'm new to the neighborhood and thought I would come out and see what places I can visit."

Near the completion of the event, top honors were given to vendors based on pre-selected criteria. The winning vendors were judged on booth presentation, crowd engagement and information provided to attendees.

The Fort Stewart Community Cup category winner went to "Hinesville Farmers Market" and the Best in Show category winner went "Splash in the Boro."

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Club System and Bowling took home the honorable mention.

The next showcase is slated for September, with a date still to be determined. Community members are strongly encouraged to learn more about upcoming events by visiting www.stewart.army.mil.
