Maj. Gen. Roger F. Mathews, Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Pacific, looks at the newly created portrait of the late 1st Lt. Jonathan Brostrom during a dedication ceremony Feb. 17 at Damien Memorial High School in Honolulu. The portrait was courtesy of the American Fallen Soldier project, a national non-profit organization that honors and forever memorializes fallen service members through paintings. Brostrom was a platoon leader assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, and died from wounds sustained during Operation Enduring Freedom July 13, 2008. Brostrom was a graduate of Damien High School, a recipient of one of the paintings, and the University of Hawaii. Mathews delivered a message from U.S. Army Pacific, thanking Brostrom and his family for making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.
