Staff members from the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington discussed various issues with Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington, commanding general, during a Town Hall meeting held in the National Defense University's Lincoln Auditorium at Fort McNair Aug. 24, 2011.

Town Hall meetings are important methods of communication within an organization and provide an important face-to-face opportunity to recognize individual achievement and reflect on the command's accomplishments, as well as address many events and concerns for the months ahead. It was also Linnington's first such gathering since taking command June 3, 2011.

The JFHQ-NCR/MDW Strategic Communications Planner, Lee Campbell, and Linnington presented the results of the July 2011 workforce survey during the meeting. "Of course there are areas where we need to improve, but in many areas we are doing very well and we will sustain that high level of performance reported in the survey," said Linnington. "I want to thank all of you for the hard work you do every day supporting our mission."

Campbell stressed that all results and comments of the survey were forwarded to the commanding general unless the author of the comment would inadvertently be identified, thus ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the survey.

Other topics discussed included suicide prevention, force protection and employee recognition.

Three employees received Length of Service awards; Karen Duke, 30 years; Robyn McCormick, 20 years and Chuck Foster, 20 years. Certificates of Achievement were presented to Chuck Foster and Mike Wolfe for their planning, preparation and support of four Pentagon Stone dedication 9/11 commemoration ceremonies. Commanding General Coins were presented to Mercedes Garcia, Sgt. 1st Class Savannah Hall, Sgt. 1st Class Richard Bush, Sgt. 1st Class Kevin Chambers, Sgt. 1st Class John Pelka, Elaine Kash, Russ Blevins, Greg Spencer, Capt. Mark Toone, Davy Wagner, Master Sgt.
