FORT STEWART, Ga.-In the first-ever Fort Stewart Women's Flag Football Championship, the stifling 703rd Brigade Support Battalion Ham defense topped the 1-3 Brigade Troop Battalion Killer Katz, 14-12 at Bennett Sports Complex, Nov. 3.

The Ham got off to a quick start, scoring early in the first quarter and locking down the Killer Katz running and passing game.

But Sgt. Olivia Rockette, Killer Katz quarterback, was tenacious and passed to Tina Thomas for a touchdown late in the first quarter. The Katz were unable to convert the extra point, remaining behind entering halftime.

After the half, Ham quarterback Pvt. Tina Ellis ran the ball in the end zone for the team's second touchdown of the game within the first few minutes of the second half.

The running game for the Killer Katz kicked in with Rockette leading the team to another touchdown, bringing her team within two.

After that, both teams' defense locked down. But in the final two minutes, the Killer Katz had the ball and the chance to win it.But the stifling Ham defense stopped every chance they had to run and seemed to be in place every time the Killer Katz tried to throw, and they walked off the field with the two-point victory.

"It feels good to win," Ellis said. "It's been a fun season."

Trophies were presented to both teams after the game.
