YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The Korean Service Corps Battalion celebrated its 60th anniversary June 9 here at Knight Field.

Founded in 1950 during the Korean War, the KSC played a major role in the Korean War by providing combat service support, such as carrying ammunition and evacuating wounded Soldiers.

Today, KSC personnel continue to maintain tactical proficiency while performing their armistice support missions. The battalion's motto is "Service First."

Eighth Army Deputy Commander Maj. Gen. Robert Williamson thanked past and present members of the KSC Battalion.

"The Republic of Korea and the United States are truly fortunate to have an exceptional organization such as the Korean Service Corps Battalion, and I look forward to continuing to work with you in the future," said Williamson.

Following the ceremony, a memorial ceremony was held to commemorate fallen Korean War veterans of the KSC Battalion at the National Cemetery.
