FORT CARSON, Colo. - Behind the scenes at the garrison here are civilians whose daily efforts pave the way for the Soldiers and units to focus on the mission.
Art Herrington, Fort Carson Directorate of Public Works Business Operations and Integration Division, Customer Service Branch lead, works with customers, both internal and external, to ensure that the needs of Fort Carson units and organizations are met.
Herrington, who began working at Fort Carson in October 2008, has been recognized by the DPW for his efforts on a number of high profile projects, improving the directorate's work order process and filling in a key vacancy in the Customer Service Branch.
"During the fourth quarter FY09, I was involved in various projects. I was working on approval of a major project to upgrade and repair the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and electrical systems at the NEC (Network Enterprise Center) facility," he said. "This was a multi-million dollar project that was necessary to NEC for continued support of the Fort Carson community."
When congressional stimulus funds were made available to Fort Carson, Herrington was a key player in quickly identifying and obtaining approval for applicable projects on post including upgrades to the electrical distribution system, sanitary sewer system and facility repairs to several buildings in the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division area.
"Art Herrington is the type of civilian employee we need at Fort Carson - dedicated, loyal to the mission and willing to go the extra mile to get job done," said Pam McCutcheon, Business Operations and Integration Division chief and Herrington's supervisor.
Herrington's background with the military began when he served 10 years in the Air Force. After leaving the service, he continued working for the Air Force as a contractor supporting civil engineering. His background includes surveying, construction inspection, real property and plans and programs and working with customers throughout the installation.
Before coming to Fort Carson, Herrington worked for the Air Force at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. He supported the Eastern Test Range at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., Cape Canaveral and the Air Force's downrange sites, including Ascension Island and Antigua.
As far as future plans go, Herrington looks forward to continuing to improve the DPW Customer Service Branch to provide the best possible service to Fort Carson.
