Blue Grass Army Depot was recently selected as the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Industry of the Year at the Chamber's 25th annual awards banquet.

"We are honored by the Richmond Chamber's recognition of the Depot with this prestigious award. Our commitment to both the joint warfighter and the community has remained steadfast and unwavering since its inception almost 70 years ago. The employees of Blue Grass Army Depot are truly deserving of this award. Their untiring efforts and dedication to supporting Soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors across the globe are highly commendable and have a direct and positive impact on central Kentucky," said Blue Grass Army Depot Commander Col. Joseph Tirone.

The second largest employer in Madison County, Blue Grass Army Depot has recently experienced expansion of capabilities, projects and missions unlike any other time in its history.

In the past two fiscal years, the Depot has increased its workforce by a total of more than 300 employees (more than 200 in FY 08 and more than 100 in FY 09).

Blue Grass Army Depot's total annual economic impact to Madison County and the surrounding area the past two fiscal years has been more than $195 million each year ($195.3 million in FY 09 and $199.85 million in FY 08).

"We look forward to continuing our partnerships with the Chamber, community businesses, schools and organizations and being a part of Richmond's continued economic and industrial growth," Tirone said.
