FORT BENNING, Ga. - Dequavious Barbin scored a team-high 16 points Tuesday at home to lead the Chattahoochee County Panthers (Region 2A-A) to a 77-63 win over the Stewart County High School Royal Knights (2B-A).
The Panthers took a 21-13 first-period lead and extended the lead to 41-30 at the half on strong outside shooting from Barbin and Niko Jones, who had three 3-point goals each.
Chattco maintained its offensive scoring pace in the third period while holding Stewart County to nine points - its lowest scoring period of the game.
Leading 61-37 to begin the fourth period, Chattco's defense held off a late comeback bid by the Knights to secure a 77-63 win. With the win, the Panthers moved to 6-2 while the Knights fell to 1-3.
Game Reaction:
"Overall we played a pretty good game. We played good defense but we missed a lot of turnovers. I think the team is off to a good start."
Kalvin Baker, Panther head coach
"We finally played team ball. We were a little tired, but we came back out (after halftime) and played strong defense, boxed out and got rebounds."
