FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- Sgt. 1st Class Antonio Brown has no plans for settling - at anything.

He said his family, colleagues and a former battalion commander motivate him to go above and beyond everything he does every day.

"They push me to constantly better myself and never settle for the standard, to exceed the standard. Always strive to be above the rest," he said.

And when he completes his assignment as a drill sergeant, Brown wants to take on the challenge of becoming an Army Ranger.

"It is something I need to do, to be complete. It's a goal that I want to do," he said.

During his 11 years in the Army, Brown has served at the former Camp Howze, Korea; Fort Hood, Texas; and Fort Bragg, N.C. Brown also has deployed to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Brown is also looking forward to earning a degree and training as a physical therapist.

He believes his experience as a Soldier and drill sergeant has equipped him with important skills that can help others heal and maintain their bodies and physical strength.

Brown advises junior enlisted to "always seek improvement in the military, as well as in civilian education."

He said leadership is developed by examining the good and bad characteristics of those who lead us.

Take the good traits, he said, build on them and make those traits your own.

We salute you!
