JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (Sept. 1, 2020) -- Members of the 901st Contracting Battalion and Mission and Installation Contracting Command-Fort Hood welcomed their new sergeant major during an assumption-of-responsibility ceremony Aug. 21 at Fort Hood, Texas.
Sgt. Maj. Meshone Rover assumed responsibility as the battalion’s senior enlisted leader, responsible for all enlisted matters including Soldier readiness and quality of life, in a ceremony officiated by Lt. Col. Kizzy Danser, commander of the 901st CBN and deputy director for the MICC-Fort Hood contracting office.
“Today is a not only a humbling day for my family and me, (but) also a personal accomplishment for a little girl from San Antonio who wanted nothing in life but an opportunity,” Rover said during remarks to members of the MICC on Fort Hood, the MICC command team and her family attending both in person and virtually. “Being entrusted as the senior enlisted noncommissioned officer for this elite battalion is confirmation that I’m on the right path set forth for me by my God.”
The battalion commander said the ceremony marks a tremendous accomplishment in Rover’s military career
“I look forward to us working together to continue to shape and transform future leaders of the Army,” Danser said. “I welcome your candid advice and guidance in order to set conditions for success at all levels of this organization.”
Rover enlisted in the Army in April 1999 as an automated logistics specialist. She has served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility and leadership roles from team leader to first sergeant. Rover has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. She has accomplished all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System to include U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 70. She is a graduate of the Army First Sergeant Course and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Cameron University.
Rover said during remarks that Army sergeants major are tasked to be the backbone of the NCO support channel, and she looks forward to providing that support.
The new senior enlisted leader assured members of the 901st CBN and MICC-Fort Hood that she will give her all and take accountability for actions while never wavering from her responsibilities.
“We are a newly united team, and I’m looking forward to building cohesive working relationships with you all. Let’s enjoy our future endeavors by being open minded, honest, trustworthy and transparent at all times,” Rover said.
The 901st CBN and MICC-Fort Hood consist of approximately 40 uniformed and 80 civilian members organized into five contracting teams and three contracting divisions. The battalion provides contracting support and business advice to the III Corps Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, Army Test and Evaluation Command, and various other Fort Hood tenant units. The battalion and contracting office are subordinate to the 418th Contracting Support Brigade headquartered at Fort Hood.
The assumption-of-responsibility ceremony included the passing of the battalion colors, which symbolize the heritage and history of the organization as well as unity and loyalty of its Soldiers. As the new battalion sergeant major, Rover is the keeper of the colors.

Headquartered at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, the Mission and Installation Contracting Command consists of about 1,500 military and civilian members who are responsible for contracting goods and services in support of Soldiers as well as readying trained contracting units for the operating force and contingency environment when called upon. As part of its mission, MICC contracts are vital in feeding more than 200,000 Soldiers every day, providing many daily base operations support services at installations, facilitate training in the preparation of more than 100,000 conventional force members annually, training more than 500,000 students each year, and maintaining more than 14.4 million acres of land and 170,000 structures.
