FORT SILL, Okla. -- First Friday on Fort Sill is a day units can use to train, inspect Army Service Uniforms, or hold promotion and awards ceremonies that promote Soldier care.

Headquarters and Head-quarters Battery, 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade leaders used their First Friday to promote wellness within the ranks.

Capt. Robyn Lucas, battery commander, drew from Army Substance Abuse, behavioral health, military family life counselors and other agencies to conduct a Soldier wellness day. The intent was to provide Soldiers the mental, spiritual and physical training needed to build maximum Soldier resiliency.

"I wanted to bring in resources today that would train and guide Soldiers on ways they can improve their performance triad," said Lucas.

Soldiers are repeatedly asked to perform tasks and missions that often take them away from their families and friends for extended periods of time. By taking time out of the duty week to ensure Soldiers are provided the tools they need to perform at the highest levels is crucial.

"This training was very informative, I learned a lot about building a healthy relationship, the negative effects of prescription drug abuse and ways to reduce stress in my life," said Sgt. Michelle Medrano, human resources noncommissioned officer.

Caring for Soldiers is a job that leaders in the Army are responsible for every day; using the resources available to them is key in promoting well-being within their ranks.
