On Monday, February 16, the nation will observe a federal holiday for George Washington's birthday. Observed on the third Monday of February, the holiday honors our nation's first president and commander-in-chief. The holiday is also known colloquially by many as Presidents Day and provides a time to honor the legacies of all presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday also falls in February.

Presidents like Washington and Lincoln, including all of our past commanders-in-chief, have provided the leadership and vision to make our great nation what it is today. As Soldiers, Family Members, Civilians and Retirees, you have played a part in keeping that vision alive through your dedicated service to the United States. You are a valued American and a valued member of the Army Medicine Team.

During this long holiday weekend, take some time to reflect on great leaders who have come before us and the progress we have made as a nation. Enjoy the well-earned holiday, but please do so safely. Command Sergeant Major Marshall Huffman and I want you to ensure the safety of yourself, your family, colleagues and friends. If you are traveling on the roadways, remember that winter travel presents unique challenges, often making it especially dangerous. Enjoy your long weekend, but please exercise good judgment this holiday.

One Team … One Mission!
