REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- A U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command employee was recently named as the organization's Acquisition Career Management Advocate.

Beginning in October, Bryon K. Manley, USASMDC/ARSTRAT Test Execution Division chief, assumed the extra duty as the command's ACMA. In this role, he will support SMDC employees, the Army Acquisition Corps and the U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center in developing future Army philosophy.

"I'm pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Bryon K. Manley as the Acquisition Career Management Advocate for SMDC," said Julie Schumacher, acting deputy to the commander, SMDC. "As the ACMA, he will serve as the command subject matter expert for our Army acquisition work force; provide professional guidance concerning acquisition programs, education, training and competitive opportunities; as well as, inform the command regarding policy implementations that impact the Army acquisition work force."

Manley's ACMA responsibilities include ensuring participation in developmental opportunities, compliance with director/deputy for Acquisition Career Management certification goals, developing individual plans and participating in quarterly acquisition work force leadership forums.

Manley talked about his new position and what he wanted the work force to know about being the command's ACMA.

"The primary focus of this position is to ensure the acquisition work force has an advocate to assist them in their acquisition career development, help them understand the acquisition certification process, and assist them in reaching certification," Manley said.

He also spoke about what made him want to take on the new challenge.

"I wanted to make a difference in the command by shouldering increased responsibility and helping individuals to meet their position requirements and the command meet the mandated requirements for certification," Manley said.

Finally, Manley talked about what an important role the ACMA has in the command.

"Since 2006, SMDC has continued to rank as one of the top organizations monitored by the director for Army Career Management," Manley said. "This is a result of the hard work of ACMA predecessors and the SMDC work force who focused on importance of exceeding acquisition work force requirements."
