Former Army Sgt. Kyle White will be awarded the Medal of Honor by Commander in Chief Barack Obama in a White House Ceremony, May 13.

Former Sgt White risked his life trying to save others when his teams of U.S. and Afghan troops were ambushed by the Taliban, November 2007, while on a mission in eastern Afghanistan.

At the time of the engagement, then-Spc. White was a platoon radio telephone operator assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade.

White left the Army in July 2011 and now lives in Charlotte, N.C. He will become the seventh living recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.
