WONJU, South Korea (May 7, 2013) -- Senior military leaders from Eighth Army and the Republic of Korea Army's leading front-line formations met here, May 3, to discuss combined logistics operations.

During a meeting at the First Republic of Korea, or ROK, Army headquarters here, leaders from Eighth Army, First ROK Army and Third ROK Army explored ways to synchronize sustainment planning and operations.

The First ROK Army defends the eastern front and the Third ROK Army guards the western front along the rugged 155-mile-wide Korean Demilitarized Zone.

As a Field Army capable of conducting unified land operations across the spectrum of conflict, Eighth Army plays a critical role on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, a vital region that is home to four of the world's six largest militaries, and 25 percent of total U.S. trade.

Leaders and logisticians from U.S. Forces Korea, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 403rd Armed Forces Support Brigade, 65th Medical Brigade, 501st Sustainment Brigade and Material Support Command-Korea also attended the combined logistics meeting.

Eighth Army Deputy Commanding General for Sustainment Brig. Gen. Chris Gentry said the meeting demonstrated the ROK-U.S. Alliance's commitment to combined readiness.

"Our combined logistical efforts play a critical role in the success of the ROK-U.S. alliance," said Gentry.

"We will continue to work with our friends and allies at FROKA and TROKA to improve our combined logistics efforts and combat readiness on the Korean Peninsula," said Gentry. "And we will stay trained, equipped and ready to tackle the many security challenges that we confront together."
