FORT SILL, Okla.-- President John Kennedy once said "Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future."

Based on the achievements of Zachary and Robert Bedford Jr., the future is looking extremely hopeful.

Zachary and Robert were recently recognized by Fort Sill SILLFACTS as the Fort Sill April volunteers of the month. Together these two young men have logged more than 800 volunteer hours giving back to the Lawton-Fort Sill community at large. The two have also been nominated by the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade for the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command Military Child of the Month.

Not only are the Bedford brothers giving back to the community, but academically they both carry 4.0 GPAs, are members of the National Honor Society and are also active members of multiple Fort Sill and Lawton community programs.

Zachary and Robert are the children of Jodie and 1st Sgt. Robert Bedford, the first sergeant of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 31st ADA.

1st Sgt. Bedford feels nothing but pride when asked about his children.

"These two go out on their own time and volunteer giving back to causes that are much bigger than either one of them. That is a true testament to the human spirit," said 1st Sgt. Bedford.

Robert is enrolled to attend Oklahoma State University in the fall and was accepted into the Honor College and College of Engineering and Architecture. Zachary's future education plans are not clear yet, but college is probably in his future.
