The Army Training Network (ATN) is a secure, web-based portal that provides access to training and education resources. It is the Army’s primary delivery platform for training and training management: doctrine, tools, products, and services.
Since ATN’s inception in 2009, it has grown to include more than 1,224 pages and 500 links to external sites. Readily accessible links on the ATN Home Page take users directly to some of the most commonly used tools: Digital Training Management System (DTMS), the Combined Arms Training Strategies (CATS), the Small Unit Leader Tool (SULT), and the Digital Job Book (DJB). The ATN also groups resources into categories: Training Doctrine and Publications, Unit Training Management, Home Station Training Enablers, Leader Development, Centers of Excellence/Proponents, Headquarters Department of the Army and Command Training Guidance, and Specific Training Resources. In addition, the search engine and alphabetical content list enable users to rapidly find the specific resource they need.
The ability to successfully conduct training and training management requires an understanding of training doctrine and an understanding of how to use the tools and processes to implement the doctrine. ATN provides direct access to the latest version of FM 7-0, as well as links to administrative publications, the Central Army Registry (CAR), and the Army Publishing Directorate (APD). The CAR contains doctrinal publications, proponent developed tasks and lesson plans and other information individuals and units can use to develop and execute training. The APD website contains current doctrinal and administrative publications as well as historical publications that can assist with both training and leader development.
ATN content provides training and education materials for Unit Training Management. This includes tutorials, videos, reference guides, lessons, and other “how to” resources in the DTMS and CATS Knowledge Bases. These training and education materials assist individuals and units to make the training management cycle more efficient and facilitate capturing the correct data for readiness reporting. TMD subject matter experts develop and maintain these resources as doctrine or DTMS and CATS functionality changes to ensure the most accurate information is available.
In addition to self-development tools, units are able to request support from the Unit Training Management Mobile Training Team, schedule DTMS Manager Training, schedule attendance at the DTMS Operator’s Course, or request a CATS Team visit. These training opportunities further individual and unit knowledge and understanding of critical ATMS systems. If issues or questions arise when using the Army Training Management System, ATN provides links and contact information for help desk services. Help Desk personnel are available via telephone, voicemail, e-mail, chat, and web ticketing from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. central time Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays.
External links on ATN provide access to a wide variety of resources. Examples of the external links include proponent websites, Headquarters Department of the Army and other command training guidance, the combat training centers, and the Center for Army Lessons Learned.
Access to ATN is secure. Users can use their common access card (CAC) on CAC enabled devices or hand-held digital devices, such as tablets or smart phones, using their EAMS-A Single Sign-on username and password. This allows Soldiers and leaders to access ATN and most of its resources from anywhere there is network connectivity. This includes the ability to view and input information into the Small Unit Leader Tool or the Digital Job Book as Soldiers complete tasks. It also allows personnel to view and download Training and Evaluation Outlines (T&EO) to assist with planning, executing opportunity training, or continued self-development. ATN includes instruction on how to access T&EOs and how to add the ATN homepage to personal devices.
