SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING
Those who volunteer and answer the Call to Duty are willing to give more than they take. They are driven, I believe, by love of country, a devotion to duty, and a willingness to sacrifice everything so others might live in peace and freedom.
Dr. Francis J. Harvey
Secretary of the United States Army
THE AMERICAN SOLDIER
The Centerpiece of our Army, the American Soldier embodies all our country has to offer. Steeped in a rich Army heritage and tradition, and embracing the Warrior Ethos, today's Soldiers are the finest trained, best-equipped, and most adaptive in history.
A Warrior first, today's Soldier is also a leader, diplomat, manager, and life-long learner. Every day, our Soldiers answer the Call to Duty to protect and serve a grateful nation.

Innovative, adaptive and culturally astute, the Soldier is a professional who leads with confidence, character, and integrity. Forged by realistic training, practical experience, formal education and independent study, the Army Leader understands history, strategic context and the enduring lessons of war. By boldly confronting uncertainty and solving complex problems, today's Army leadership sets the standard personally and professionally, earning the confidence of the American public and the trust of fellow Soldiers.
- THE INSTITUTION
The Institutional Army is responding to a changing security environment with systems that ensure cyclical readiness, predictable access to active and reserve units, and synchronized operations. While generating and sustaining our globally-employed forces, the Army provides world-class support to units, individual Soldiers, and their families. Such support ensures that the critical components to the success of the Army- the people, resources, quality of life, and infrastructure- remain relevant and ready for tomorrow's challenges.
- MODULAR FORCES
The Army's responding to a changing world by creating more flexible and rapidly deployable Modular Forces. These increasingly capable, adaptive, networked, full-spectrum formations allow the Army to be more relevant and ready than ever before. They provide greater stability for Soldiers and their families, improving the quality of Army service. Modularization allows for rebalance of the force mix to execute joint and expeditionary campaigns that protect our freedoms, deter our adversaries, and if required, defeat our enemies.
