What is it?
The Electrical Safety Awareness Program is designed to raise awareness of electrical risks and help keep Soldiers, family members and civilians safe at home and on the job. The Department of Defense Electrical Safety Working Group and U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center launched the program in October 2011 and began official observations in May 2012, with each subsequent May being designated Electrical Safety Awareness Month.
What has Army Safety done?
The USACR/Safety Center is continuously working with agencies and professionals dedicated to electrical safety. The ESAP encourages individuals to stay aware and safe while working with equipment powered by electricity. The program aims to educate and inform Soldiers, civilians, contractors and family members on steps that can be taken to prevent accidents and injuries involving electricity in the home and workplace.
What does Army Safety have planned for the future?
The USACR/Safety Center will focus regularly on electrical safety. A dedicated electrical safety page, contains valuable information leaders and safety professionals may use to promote electrical safety awareness throughout their formations.
Why is this important to the Army?
Electricity has long been recognized as a serious hazard that exposes the Army team to serious risk. Overlooking the very real hazards of electricity and taking shortcuts can lead to devastating accidents. Electricity is essential both on and off duty, and the keys to electrical safety awareness are training and education. The ESAP can help all members of the Army family stay safe in their daily activities.
