2007 Army Posture Statement - Army Well Being Programs

The Army provides a broad spectrum of programs and services to support the well-being of Soldiers, Civilians, and Army Families, and to encourage their continued willingness to serve. The Army uses an integrated approach in managing the vast variety of programs, activities, and initiatives that are focused on achieving the Army objective to sustain the All-Volunteer force.

Army leadership continually reviews feedback from Soldiers, Civilians, Army Families, and leaders. At the same time, leadership works hard to identify the emerging needs of the Army's people and researches ways to meet and satisfy those new needs. Ideas and issues arise from many sources, three of which are listed below:

- Structured Feedback - Structured feedback through surveys conducted by the Army Research Institute (ARI), Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), and other organizations provide valuable input from Soldiers, Civilians, and Army Families. These surveys include the semi-annual Sample Survey of Military Personnel (SSMP), and the Survey of Army Families.

- Direct Feedback - A second source is direct feedback to Army leaders. Such feedback can come from many venues, i.e., Family Readiness Group meetings, Town Hall meetings, symposia, etc. The Well Being Liaison Office (WBLO) is also instrumental in maintaining Soldier and family feedback through the Army Families On-line website (please see below).

- Army Family Action Planning (AFAP) A third, strong source is the AFAP process. This process takes emerging or persistent issues affecting our Soldiers, Civilians, and family members at the grassroots level and addresses them at installation level. Issues initiated at installation level, are reviewed at a large, mid-level conference. Remaining issues are then raised annually to senior leadership for their action. This process helps leadership ensure that the Army delivers the right services to the right Soldier, Civilian or Family member at the right time.
