USASMDC

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command is the Army’s space, high-altitude, and air and missile defense warfighting headquarters. Our team of more than 12,000 Soldiers and Civilians serve as the Army Service Component Command to U.S. Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, and U.S. Northern Command.

USASMDC operates from headquarters in Alabama and Colorado to control globally deployed and homeland-focused formations, including two air and missile defense commands, the 1st Space Brigade, and the 100th Missile Defense Brigade. SMDC is the Army’s force modernization proponent, guided by the Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence as our architect for the future force, and the Technical Center as our engine of scientific innovation. USASMDC manages the Army astronaut detachment at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

USASMDC secures the high ground. We deliver advantages to the Army and Joint Force by executing integrated defense and offensive attack operations in the air and space domains. We champion a holistic missile defeat strategy by integrating left-of-launch kinetic and non-kinetic effects to degrade and destroy adversary capabilities.

In space, we interdict adversary space capabilities, delivering space electronic warfare expertise at the tactical edge to deny enemy surveillance and protect friendly forces from observation. USASMDC maintains 24/7/365 vigilance across the globe to defend the homeland, deter aggression, and enable Army and Joint Force operations.
