Mike Obadal is the 36th Under Secretary of the Army, sworn in on Sept. 22, 2025, following his nomination by President Donald J. Trump and confirmation by the United States Senate.

As Under Secretary of the Army, Mike serves as the Army’s chief management officer, responsible for oversight of the Army’s business operations, manpower and personnel systems, acquisition strategy, and enterprise reform initiatives. He works closely with the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Army to support warfighter readiness, modernization, and talent transformation.

Mike is a former Soldier and industry leader who brings 30 years of experience across the military, interagency, and defense technology communities. Entering the Army in 1996, he led attack helicopter units in Kuwait, Korea, and the U.S., and was assigned to the Army's National Training Center.

As a Special Operations officer, he conducted operations in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. He is qualified in nine aircraft types, is a Master Army Aviator with more than 3,000 hours of flight time and is a military freefall parachutist.

Following his military career, he joined the private sector where he led programs to deliver advanced technology to U.S. government clients, enabling the development of next-generation hardware and software. He holds a bachelor's degree from the Virginia Military Institute and master's degrees from the Navy War College and National Defense University.

He is married to a West Point graduate and former Army officer, and together they reside in the National Capital Region with their three children.
