CRANE, Ind. -- Ind. Gov. Mike Pence visited Crane Army Ammunition Activity March 21 as part of his efforts to understand the ammunition activity better and how the base impacts the region.
Pence has been to NSA Crane previously but not as governor nor to CAAA. He received a briefing illustrating the core missions and capabilities of the Activity. He also had a chance to talk with some CAAA employees and view some of the products produced here.
According to the governor's office, the visit allowed him to talk about the importance of Crane in terms of economic development in Indiana and its national importance as a key defense asset.
Following the briefing by CAAA Commander Col. Linwood Clark, Pence told the CAAA employees that Hoosiers were proud of the work being done at Crane in support of the military.
CAAA was established in Oct. 1977 and is a subordinate of the Joint Munitions Command. The Army activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components.
