Brig. Gen. John Wharton, commanding general, Army Sustainment Command, and senior mission commander, Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., discussed sequestration and potential furloughs with command headquarters personnel March 19 in the Baylor Conference Room, Building 103. This was Wharton's first town hall since taking command of ASC last fall. Live streaming video was available for those off-site and for those not able to personally attend.
His discussion focused on the Organizational Climate Assessment, the ASC Campaign Plan, and sequestration. Wharton noted that the Army must incur an $18 billion reduction in its budget for fiscal year 2013. ASC has a global reach with presence in 17 countries and 28 states with 65,000 civilians, Soldiers and contractors operating on a budget of $11 billion. ASC supports Army and joint forces in support of combatant commanders around the world.
