ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- Mike Mathews, Anniston Army Depot's director of public works, presented Glenn Geier with a time-off award for being named DPW's Safe Employee of the Quarter for October through December.

Geier regularly works with a variety of chemicals and pesticides, risking exposure to toxic vapors, liquids and powders, according to the award justification.

Geier always wears the proper personal protective equipment for the products he handles in his job duties and said that the Voluntary Protection Program concept of doing things safely every day is nothing new for him.

"Safety is something I've been tested on the entire time I've worked here," said Geier. "I've been getting inspected as long as I've had this job by people from off-depot."

Mathews emphasized to those present at the ceremony that employee safety was crucial, not only for attaining VPP Star Status, but also for ensuring all employees go home safely each day.
