HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M., -- Maj. Gary Bonham, Deputy Commander, Albuquerque District, participated in the ground-breaking ceremony for a new Child Development Center at Holloman Air Force Base March 5, 2013.
"Construction of this Child Development Center is important because it will provide much needed day care services for active duty dependent children," said Bonham. "This center will provide a safe and healthy environment that includes early childhood development and preschool programs" he said.
Currently, care programs are provided at three separate facilities located at various locations throughout the base" said Joe Almers, project manager, Albuquerque District. "These three facilities are aging and too small to meet the needs of active duty parents," he said.
The waiting list for enrollment in the current Child Development Centers is over 80 children. This new facility will centralize all child care facilities and will be large enough to care for 200 children.
Participants had the opportunity to share the ground breaking events with six children who are currently enrolled in one of the current Child Development Centers at Holloman Air Force Base.
This project will receive Silver LEED certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design. The Child Development Center is scheduled for completion in April 2014.
