ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala.-The U.S. Army's Anniston Recruiting Company held its change of command ceremony here June 6 at the physical fitness center.
The company's outgoing commander, Capt. Alan Stephens, passed his two-year command of the company and its six subordinate recruiting stations to Capt. Christopher Kuszniaj, a Calhoun County native.
The company commander's office is located inside the Anniston Army Depot headquarters building where the commanding officer, two non-commissioned officers and a civilian administrative professional are stationed. A total of 31 military personnel are employed by the company.
ARC is a part of the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion-Montgomery, which is commanded by Lt. Col. L. Wayne Magee Jr., who presided over the change of command ceremony.
The recruiting company is responsible for Army and Army Reserve recruiting in 13 Alabama counties, covering more than 8,500 square miles that encompass 78 high schools, six two-year colleges, two four-year colleges and seven vocational technical colleges.
Kuszniaj comes to Anniston from his former assignment at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he graduated from the Chemical Captains Career Course in April. He was commissioned a second lieutenant on active duty in the Chemical Corps following his 2003 graduation from Jacksonville State University and its Reserve Officer Training Corps. He holds a Bachelor of Science in both elementary education and criminal justice.
"It's really great to be back in Calhoun County after being gone for some time. I am humbled and honored that it is in a position of Recruiting Company Command," said Kuszniaj.
Stephens' next assignment takes him to the Middle East where he will serve as an intelligence advisor to Iraqi national police.
Stephens said that the Army offers more recruiting benefits than ever before. "Right now is the best possible time to enlist, really," he said.
The company recruited more than 650 Soldiers under Stephens' command.
"I would just like to thank all the NCOs in my company for all of their dedication to the mission and tireless efforts that man our Army with qualified and capable future Soldiers. This command has been one of my greatest experiences in the Army," said Stephens.
The responsibility to place great Soldiers in our Armed Services and keep our nation's Army Strong is extremely important, said Kuszniaj.
