Women's History Month

Sgt. Maj. LaSonjia Stewart, with the Third Infantry Division, is currently serving a tour of duty at Regional Command-South, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as the logistics sergeant major. Stewart, a Charleston, Miss., native arrived, in theatre Aug. 8, 2013.

Stewart said this deployment for her is no different from the others. It is just in a different location.

This is Stewart's fourth deployment, which includes tours to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Her mission during this tour is to provide logistical support to all classes of supply.

"I serve because I enjoy fighting for my country," said Stewart.

As we begin to celebrate Women's History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to history, society and culture; Stewart had a few words of encouragement for women currently serving their country or those looking to serve.

"Be all that you can be," said Stewart.

When Stewart returns home she said she is looking forward to seeing all of her supportive family members.
