Soldiers find crime doesn't pay

Larceny

At a special court-martial convened on Rose Barracks, Feb. 13, Pvt.2 Jeffrey L. Mewborn, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 172nd Separate Infantry Brigade, was found guilty, in accordance with his pleas, of one charge and one specification of violating Article 107, UCMJ, false official statement; and one charge and one specification of violating Article 121, UCMJ, larceny of government property.

A military judge sentenced Mewborn to pay the United States a fine of $5,000, to be confined for a period of seven months, and to be discharged from the service with a bad-conduct discharge.

Desertion

At a general court-martial convened on Conn Barracks in Schweinfurt, Jan. 31, Pvt. Ismael Martinez Jr., Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 172nd Separate Infantry Brigade, was found guilty, in accordance with his plea, of one charge and one specification of violating Article 85, UCMJ, desertion.

A military judge sentenced Martinez to be confined for a period of 11 months and to be discharged from the service with a bad-conduct discharge.

Assault

At a special court-martial convened on Rose Barracks, Vilseck, Germany, from Jan. 27-28, Spc. James E. Chambers Jr., Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 172nd Separate Infantry Brigade, was found guilty, contrary to his plea, of one charge and one specification of violating Article 128, UCMJ, assault consummated by a battery.

An enlisted panel sentenced Chambers to be reprimanded, to be reduced to the grade of private first class, to be restricted for 60 days, and to perform hard labor without confinement for a period of 60 days.

Aggravated sexual assault

At a general court-martial convened on Rose Barracks, from Jan. 14-16, Pfc. Gerald D. Crowe, Jr., Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 172nd Separate Infantry Brigade, was found guilty, contrary to his plea, of one charge and one specification of violating Article 120, UCMJ, aggravated sexual assault.

An enlisted panel sentenced Crowe to be reduced to the grade of private (E-1), and to be confined for a period of 120 days.

Not guilty

At a general court-martial convened on Warner Barracks in Bamberg, from Jan. 9-10, Spc. Andrew R. Pardee, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 173rd Special Troops Battalion (Rear), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, was found not guilty, in accordance with his pleas, of one charge and three specifications of violating Article 120, UCMJ, rape by force and wrongful sexual contact.

Larceny

At a general court-martial convened on Conn Barracks in Schweinfurt, Jan. 8, Spc. Latoya J. Choice, Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 172nd Separate Infantry Brigade, was found guilty, in accordance with her pleas, of one charge and six specifications of violating Article 121, UCMJ, larceny of private property.

A military judge sentenced Choice to be confined for a period of one year and to be discharged from the service with a bad-conduct discharge. In accordance with her pretrial agreement, her period of confinement will be limited to six months.
