The skies above the North Country will come alive June 28-29 as the nation's most modern military aircraft are joined by venerable examples of aviation history in the first air show of its kind at Fort Drum, capping a week-long celebration of Fort Drum's one hundred years as a fixture in Northern New York.
The free air show will provide participants the opportunity to view the nation's military air might and meet the men and women who pilot the aircraft, many of whom have recently returned from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The annual celebration of Fort Drum and the North Country, long known as Mountain Fest, will become this year's Centennial Celebration and will include the air show, River Fest in Alexandria Bay and a fireworks display.
A key event during the Centennial Celebration will be a concert headlined by country music star Gary Allen and featuring alternative rock veterans Bowling for Soup and rising talent Katie Rae Davis. The concert is free to the public and will be held at Fort Drum's Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield June 26 starting at approximately 6:30 p.m., followed by a huge fireworks display.
Air show acts include World War II aircraft, jets, formation flying acts, vintage aircraft, a military parachute demonstration and a hang glider performance. A combat capabilities demonstration by Fort Drum's own 10th Combat Aviation Brigade will display the professionalism and lethality of Mountain Soldiers currently serving the nation.
