GRAFENWOEHR, Germany (May 29, 2008) - Each year, photographers from every service compete for 25 slots, and an opportunity to participate in an intensive advanced workshop.
The workshop is designed to enhance photography and visual information skills, allowing attendees to learn the craft from world-class photographers.
This year, four of the five Army civilians selected for the Department of Defense's 16th Annual Worldwide Military Photography Workshop are from the Joint Multinational Training Command's, Training Support Activity Europe (TSAE).
Three of the selectees work at installations in Germany - Martin Greeson, Darmstadt; DeLinda Hood, Stuttgart; and Volker Ramspott, Wiesbaden - with the fourth, Barbara Romano, assigned to Vicenza, Italy.
The TSAE has training support centers dispersed throughout Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Kosovo, Romania and Bulgaria. Its headquarters is located at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Grafenwoehr, Germany, and its production facility at Roedelheim, Germany.
"As visual information personnel, we document the Army's - and our Nation's - permanent official visual history. We are the eyes of the Army, getting the right image, at the right time, and at the right place for worldwide distribution," said Tim Heefner, Visual Information Manager. "This workshop is extremely competitive. The selection of four TSAE VI personnel validates we are capturing imagery and our history here in Europe effectively."
Each applicant's digital portfolio was judged by a distinguished panel of photographers from civilian publications, other criteria included an evaluation of their ability to provide the highest quality imagery to DoD through the Defense Imagery and Joint Combat Camera center, and recommendation letters from their chain of commands.
"Working with the finest instructors will give me the chance to enrich myself and improve my skills," said selectee Romano. "Most importantly, this training will help me offer a better quality product to the Soldiers I am serving in Italy."
The contest-winners will attend the workshop at the Defense Information School at Fort George G. Meade, Md., June 2-7.
