Albuquerque District's Small Business program for 2012 will receive three distinct accolades at the Society of American Military Engineers Annual Small Business Conference the week of Dec. 10 in Grapevine, Texas.
The District is in the top 10 of all districts for obligating 9.2 percent of total expenditures ($338.5 million) to Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB). The District's Chief of Cost Engineering Michael Prudhomme is one of a select few who are being recognized for the Small Business Special Champion Award, and the District is receiving an award for the fact that 49 percent of the money it contracted with educational institutions ($423,000) went to the Historically Black College or University/ Minority Institution (HBCU/MI) category.
Small Business Deputy Daniel Curado said the Small Business Special Champion Awards are new and recognize other individuals in the organization who make significant contributions to the Corps' Small Business Program. In this case, Michael Prudhomme was responsible for negotiating all of the District's sole-source 8(a) small disadvantaged business construction contracts. Of the $44.8 million of 8(a) construction contracts awarded, he was responsible for more than half.
"Michael's management and guidance ensured the contracts were awarded at a reasonable cost to allow for a fair profit for the contractor, but at a good value to the government," said Chief of Technical Support Branch Glenn Roybal.
"We are a small District with big endeavors happening all the time," said District Commander Lt. Col. Antoinette Gant.
