SEONGNAM, REPUBLIC OF KOREA -- U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan's Sung Nam Golf Club closed its driving range for the weekend to allow Servicemembers, Families, and Civilians the opportunity to go downhill for snow sledding, here, Dec. 8-9.

"I think the kids are really enjoying this opportunity to go snow sledding," said Spc. Anthony Turner, a human resources specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, USAG Yongsan. "This is definitely a great way to enjoy mother-nature with family and friends."

During this event, SNGC provided hot chocolate and sandwiches to the all of the attendees that came out to participate in the fun-filled five inches of snow.

For safety purposes, the SNGC staff worked as the "Hill Marshalls" to control the sled traffic. They provided designed starting and walking lanes separated from the sled lanes with markings to ensure that everyone knew their boundaries and where to go for safety throughout this event.

"We wanted to provide a fun filled day in the snow for our Area II Community members," said Ronald Buss, chief of business operations division for USAG Yongsan's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. "We also wanted to make safety the top priority so that everyone could enjoy this event."

Although, the golf course wasn't being used for its original purpose, it provided a creative opportunity for a different way to provide entertainment to the Community.

"This is the first that we were able to open up our course to the Community for sledding," Buss said. "Even though patrons couldn't play golf, we were able to draw another crowd, who usually wouldn't be on the course. This was just a great opportunity for U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan to provide the Community with another aspect of quality of life that they truly deserve."

Buss explained that the conditions were just right to make this event happen.

"Snow came just at the right time," he said. "And the Community sure showed its support in making the event a great success. Also, the SNGC staff had a great time with the families and introducing the Golf Club to many people for their first time."
