GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- Members of the U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus sing "Gloria" during the ensemble's holiday concert at the Tower View Theater on Dec. 10.
While the full band and chorus gathered off-post the previous night for a formal concert, they let their hair down on Saturday and unleashed the Full Spectrum Ops band and Night Fire Rock Band on a younger audience eager to get on their feet and dance.
Guitars wailed through a version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," which asked, "What's a partridge? What's a pear tree?" and a trumpet and trombone dueled during the brass quartet's medley of Hanukkah songs.
At times, the concert took on the flavor of a variety show. During a more traditional rendering of "Sleighs," slapstick clips of cars sliding on ice, ski and snowboard accidents and other snowy mayhem played on projector screens.
Though they are the only USAREUR band left in Germany, 1st Sgt. David Witt said that they typically perform for Germans, rather than Americans.
"We normally don't get to perform in front of an American audience, so this is a real treat for us," he said.
