FORT SILL, Okla.-- People seeking a pretty Christmas or holiday tree may find it at the Fort Sill Patriot Spouses' Club holiday tree auction Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Patriot Club.
Provided they bid enough for the tree they like.
Amy Heebner, PSC first vice president, said club members gave away 20 3-foot trees that units and other people and organizations are decorating in time for the auction. All proceeds will benefit the PSC Scholarship and Grant Fund. Last year the auction raised about $2,000.
"We hope to do better than last year, however, we will be grateful for whatever amount we raise," she said. "The Lawton-Fort Sill community has been generous at previous auctions, and I believe they do that, in part, because they know the money raised here goes back into the local community."
People who decorate trees provide PSC members an estimated value of their creation.
"That's up to them what they want to put into their tree," she said. "However, the estimated value we tell bidders doesn't matter so much as the popularity of what people are willing to bid."
Club members have already received several trees and some come with intriguing themes: a date night tree, Fires tree, hunting and tail-gating trees.
People who signed up by the Dec. 4 deadline will again get a holiday meal courtesy of the Patriot Club staff. Heebner said because the Patriot Club needs a firm count of meals to prepare, they won't be able to feed people who didn't RSVP.
"Still, anyone who would like to attend the auction is welcome," she said, "if they arrive about 15 minutes before the bidding begins at noon."
That will provide enough time for late arrivals to look at the trees and determine ones they may want to bid on.
"This auction gives us the opportunity to reach more people and organizations, because when you support the PSC you don't just support one organization, you support many," said Heebner.
