YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- A new local bike shop has opened its doors to the Yongsan Community to provide Servicemembers, Families and Civilians the opportunity to purchase a variety of high-end bicycles and a professional repair and management services here, Nov. 30.

Platoon Cycles, located on Camp Coiner, is expected to be a hot spot for many of Yongsan's bike riders by providing bikes and bike related accessories and repairing services. The grand opening of the bike shop was meaningful in many ways, according to Stanley Young, general manager for the Yongsan Exchange.

"Adding this new activity here is a great benefit for our Area II customers," Young said. "There always has been a demand for high-end bikes, and Platoon Cycles will give the Community an opportunity to fulfill the demand with a variety of high-end bicycles. Also, it will provide the after service, which is especially important for customers."

The grand opening of Platoon Cycles started off with the ribbon cutting ceremony with the help of Col. Michael E. Masley, garrison commander for U.S Army Garrison Yongsan, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel L. Willing, command sergeant major for USAG Yongsan, and Bruce Lee, owner of Platoon Cycles. They then toured the shop and shared their thoughts and prospects of the store with the staff.

"Bicycles can be means of sports, exercise and transportation for Community members," Masley said. "One of our goals is to provide them with a selection of bikes, but more importantly, focus on the management and repair of the bikes because safety is a top priority."

Masley and Lee discussed some ideas on how they both could give back to the Community.

"There are lots of abandoned bicycles on post," Lee said. "I'd like to gather them, repair them for free and give them back to community. Col. Masley and I agreed that giving the repaired bikes back to local Korean community, such as low income family or orphanage, could be great things we can do together. I am looking forward to the meaningful events like that."
