ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. (May 13, 2008) - The U.S. Army and the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility will donate computer equipment to three public schools and two nonprofit agencies that provide educational services to the community at 9 a.m. May 14.
The schools that will receive the computers include:
- Tenth Street Elementary School
- Golden Springs Elementary School
- Anniston Middle School
The Anniston City School Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of East Alabama will also receive equipment.
The scheduled donation involves monitors, central processing units, laptops, scanners, printers, a fax machine, a DVD tower duplicator and a CD writer.
Like similar donations in the past, the computer equipment will be returned to productive use benefiting agencies or the faculty and students in the school systems located throughout the six counties that participate in the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program.
The donation will take place at the ANCDF Gate 5A Warehouse on Anniston Army Depot near Morrisville Road in Anniston (near the Calhoun County landfill).
To date, the employees at the ANCDF have safely demilitarized 311,261 GB- and VX-filled chemical munitions as well as 219,455 gallons of nerve agent. The facility is scheduled to be decontaminated and decommissioned once all of the chemical munitions at the Depot are safely demilitarized.
