FORT BRAGG, N.C. - A "Hiring Our Heroes" job fair took place Nov. 16, at the Crown Center. This event was open to military veterans, active duty, Guard and Reserve servicemembers, as well as eligible military spouses.

The event was sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Service, the North Carolina Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the North Carolina Chamber, the Give an Hour/The Community Blueprint Network, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, The American Legion, NBC News and other local partners. In all, the event featured at least 60 employers on site with hopes of hiring qualified servicemembers.

"We want to be able to provide an opportunity for these veterans to have a fair chance at a job," said Brandon Plotnick, spokesperson for Fayetteville Regional Chamber of Commerce. "These types of job fairs have employers from all different career paths. The employers there want to hire those with prior military experience."

Ernie Lombardi, Southeast Regional Associate of U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a former Marine, said he was determined to help servicemembers find jobs. He said the primary purpose of the job fair was to put veterans in front of employers.

"Since March of 2011, nationwide Hiring Our Heroes has created 400 job fairs. Our mission is to have 500,000 military veterans hired nationwide by January 1, 2014," Lombardi said.

"The whole campaign of Hiring Our Heroes is to provide opportunities for veterans to meet with employers, one-on- one, talk about their skill sets, job capabilities and desire to move forward in their civilian life," he added.

Lombardi pointed out that veterans bring a lot of skill sets to the table and they bring a tremendous amount of teamwork, discipline and willingness to accomplish a mission.
