VILSECK, Germany -- Yareli Vega, Carolina Cora, Kirsy Rodriguez and Emma Henson, third-graders at Vilseck Elementary School, celebrate the festival of St. Martin by creating traditional lanterns, Nov. 14. Host nation teacher Dorothee Baer and art teacher Julie Carter assisted students.

The event was held in honor of St. Martin, a Roman Army officer, who, as legend has it, once met a freezing beggar and shared his military cloak with him. Later he became a priest, so he could help people in need.

In his memory, Vilseck students walked around the school singing German songs with their colorful, handmade lanterns.
