U.S. Army Garrison - Detroit Arsenal, Mich. -- Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Leisure Travel Services at the Detroit Arsenal provides military personnel, Department of Defense civilian employees, contractors, retirees, veterans and their families with economical, convenient and desired services having to do with travel and travel-related services.

Leisure Travel Services is a full service travel agency whose services include point-to-point commercial tickets for air, rail and bus; cruises, vacation packages, lodging reservations and attraction tickets. Although many attractions offer government discounts to military personnel when purchased on location, purchasing vacation packages through LTS benefits the FMWR division.

"Leisure Travel Services is competitive with AAA travel and has a meet or beat philosophy and is available not only for those at DTA and Selfridge ANGB, but also for their friends and family members," said Matthew Foot, Leisure Travel Services manager. "With advance planning and committing in advance, vacationers are able to lock-up big savings when booking a trip."

The Leisure Travel Services staff continuously works to obtain the best deals for patrons. Competitive pricing on escorted tours, inclusive resorts packages, vacation packages, customized individual arrangements and group travel are all arranged by the Leisure Travel Services staff. They utilize a central booking number for bulk discounts and will meet or beat internet pricing.

Additionally, FMWR staffers regularly secure discount vouchers and complimentary tickets for sporting events and concerts. The complimentary tickets and reduced price vouchers include many events at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Meadowbrook, Joe Louis Arena, Comerica Park, DTE Music Theatre, Fox Theatre and many more. Sports teams included are the Pistons, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. The tickets and vouchers are offered to active duty members, veterans, retirees and DoD civilians as well as contractors.

Bus trips are the newest offering from Leisure Travel Services. Bus trips offer something for everyone to include wine or micro brewery tastings, casino outings, sporting events and Cedar Point. Upcoming trips include the Meadowbrook Christmas Lights Spectacular, a Plymouth Whalers hockey game, a Greektown Casino daytrip and a Traverse City overnight trip.

Another perk Leisure Travel Services staffers offer is the Armed Forces Vacation Club. Lodging for $369 for one week for up to eight persons per room is available to AFVC members. Members can choose from 3,500 resorts in 80 countries. The AFVC is a space available program that offers military and other DoD affiliated personnel the opportunity to enjoy vacations around the world.
