YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Col. Michael E. Masley, garrison commander for U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, celebrated Thanksgiving with over 40 children and parents from the Yongsan Community during a book reading here, Nov. 6.
Masley helped bring about laughter and joy throughout the Yongsan Library, not only from the children, but also from the volunteers and everybody who attended the story hour. He hopes more community members are able to get involved in other garrison hosted events and activities during the holiday season.
"It was a great opportunity for the kids and the parents to take time to relax and enjoy the upcoming holidays," Masley said. "On top of this event, all of our MWR facilities are prepared to feed the community during the holiday and also many activities are coming up for the community members to take part in. So, I want to see everybody takes advantage of it and have a great time during the holiday."
Michelle Keier, a volunteer at the Yongsan library, appreciated Masley for showing up at the event and his efforts to interact with the community.
"I think it was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to meet somebody new and experience somebody else's story telling style," Keier said. "I greatly appreciate Col. Masley for coming today. It is wonderful to see the Soldiers taking part in community activities, working with the families and children."
