FORT STEWART, Ga. - Colonel Kevin Gregory, Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander, conducted his first State of the Garrison for Fort Stewart employees at the Main Post Chapel, Oct. 23.
Beginning with the top ten objectives of Installation Management Command's commanding general, LTG Michael Ferriter, the employees were reminded that demonstrating inspired leadership and world class customer service would make them successful in all areas of their work. "You are doing what you need to do when you take care of each other, our Soldiers, Family Members and retirees," said Gregory.
New Soldiers and Civilians were also introduced to the employees. In addition to re-introducing himself, Gregory also noted Garrison Command Sergeant Major CSM Louis Felicioni; deputy commanding general-rear Col. John Hort; division Command Sergeant Major-Rear CSM Jimmy Pegues; installation senior chaplain Col. Robert Meek; installation safety officer Roy Coker; and Army Community Services officer, William Lukens. Both Coker and Lukens are expected on board by the end of November.
Deployment for the 3rd ID is a continuing process so Gregory of course highlighted the goings and the returning notions of the division.
Strength management is a concern for both Civilians and military, as they form a support structure for each other. By March 2013, there may be a little more than 10,000 Soldiers on the installation. However many who have been deployed will be returning as their deployment cycle comes to an end.
On-board civilian strength continues to make progress with reductions. "Getting the right folks in the right job aids in our plan to meet the goal of 901 by Oct. 1, 2013," said Gregory. "We have a little bit of room to work on the TDA (Table of Distribution and Allowances), plus a new round of VSIP/VERA (Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay/Voluntary Early Retirement)."
According to a memo dated Oct. 17, this round of VSIP/VERA will be presented to employees in overhire series. Civilians approved for VSIP/VERA must be off the roles no later than June 30.
