WASHINGTON (Oct. 16, 2012) - - Various congressional staff members received updates on Department of Defense plans to support civil authorities during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration.

Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region Deputy Commander Egon Hawrylak led the briefings and described the mission and capabilities of the JFHQ-NCR as well as its tasking as a Joint Task Force specifically providing DoD support for the 57th Presidential Inauguration.

"The purpose of this visit is to educate U.S. House of Representative staff members from the Committee on Homeland Security about the role the JTF-NCR and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington have regarding support for the upcoming inauguration," said Darrell Adams, JFHQ-NCR/MDW congressional liaison. "It is important for them to understand our assigned missions and capabilities."

JFHQ-NCR plans, coordinates, maintains situational awareness, and as directed, employs forces for homeland defense and support to civil authorities to safeguard the nation's capital.

MDW serves as the Army Service Component to, and core staff element of, the JFHQ-NCR and provides executive, operational, ceremonial and musical support across a full spectrum of worldwide responsibilities from wreath laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown, official arrival ceremonies for visiting heads of state to planning and executing the 57th Presidential Inauguration.
