HAWTHORNE, Nev. (Oct. 18, 2012) -- Hawthorne Army Depot appreciates its partnerships with local communities.

One of these partnerships is with the Walker River Paiute Tribe. Hawthorne Army Depot has rail lines that traverse the tribe's community used to transport ammunition to and from the depot.

Short, cCommander of Hawthorne Army Depot, and Amber Torres, vice chairperson of the Walker River Paiute Tribal Council, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, which clarified notification procedures for rail shipments crossing the reservation. The MOU also outlined responsibilities for joint emergency response and training opportunities between the depot and the tribe.
