FORD ISLAND, Hawaii - The 516th Signal Brigade was awarded the first "Traveling Bronzed Boots" award for the most unit participation for the first "Boots on the Bridge" Memorial Fisher House Run. The Hero Remembrance Run featured boots for fallen Warriors and started and finished at the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island. Combat boots, donated by Army Soldiers, Civilians and Families on Oahu, lined the path of the run. Each boot represented a service member who has died since Sept. 11, 2001, and was displayed with a photo of the service member and a small American flag. All boots were donated, and bronzed boots on the award itself are actually a pair of combat boots that have been bronzed. The "travelling" part of the moniker denotes that the trophy will be passed on to the unit with most participation each year of the event. This is due in part to the cost of the award and to encourage maximum unit participation in future events.
