TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, Pa. -- The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance recognized the Army's century of service at Tobyhanna during their 48th Annual Dinner here Thursday.
Jeffrey Box, president and chief executive officer of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, presented the annual Regional Leadership Award to depot commander Col. Gerhard P.R. Schröter during the event. He also spoke to approximately 140 guests about the depot's service to the Armed Forces, its role as the largest employer in the region and the economic impact it has on the surrounding seven counties. Tobyhanna Army Depot is the largest employer in a seven-county area with more than 5,400 employees providing a $4.4 billion annual economic impact.
"As we look to a future of opportunities, we will continue to look to our regional partners. NEPA's regional focus and efforts are very valuable, we will continue to work on issues that affect all of us," Schröter said, accepting the award, and thanking Box for his leadership and NEPA's commitment to Tobyhanna.
NEPA is a regional multi-county economic development agency providing leadership, planning, expertise and services to regional and local governments, businesses, institutions and individuals through innovative and beneficial collaborations and partnerships to enhance the economic development and quality of life of the area. According to its website, the NEPA Alliance Regional Leadership Award is dedicated in memory of John J. Luciani, former NEPA Board Chairperson and other Past Chairpersons. It represents the dedication for the people of our region, passion for economic growth and hard work that formed the foundation and advancement of NEPA.
Tobyhanna Army Depot also received two proclamations from local elected officials recognizing the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Army's arrival here and the depot, which opened its doors in 1953. "The depot's impact is huge," said Box. "The region has unified to support this fine facility."
Anna Cervenak, a NEPA board member and Blue Ribbon Task Force co-chair recognized the successful teamwork between the depot, NEPA and the task force in addressing issues facing northeast Pennsylvania.
"Tobyhanna has added to its historic record of service to our Armed Forces and our region," Cervenak said. "Tobyhanna is critical to our economy and is a valuable partner in so many of our economic development plans and programs."

teamwork," added Schröter. "We are very proud to call northeastern Pennsylvania our home."
