They might live next door to you, down the street, go to your church or school, or be a member of your unit. If you know a great family, the Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill would like to know about them.

Laurie Batule, Army Volunteer Corps coordinator, said Fort Sill is looking for families who contribute to the growth of their community and instill a sense of teamwork as they nurture and strengthen their families.

"All types of families are eligible," said Batule, "whether dual- or single-parent, we are looking for families who best promote individual growth of its members, family teamwork and service to others."

All nominations must be digitally submitted by close of business Sept. 25. Individuals, units, agencies and organizations may nominate families. In addition to bulleted information listing the attributes and selfless service of the family, nominators may also include a one-page essay in 1,000 words or less explaining why their nominated family should be family of the year.

"November is the month of the Military Family, and the Family of the Year recognition ceremony will be the highlight of the month long celebration," said Batule. "It's important to take the time to recognize those exceptional families. General [Raymond] Odierno, [Army chief of staff,] sent a loud and clear message to Soldiers, civilians and their families when he said, 'The strength of our nation is our Army; the strength of our Army is our Soldiers; the strength of our Soldiers is our families.'"

Nomination forms, instructions and sample nominations can be found at www.sillmwr.com select the Soldier & Family Programs drop down menu then Army Volunteer Corps.
